The SRC Daycare, Preschool and Afterschool is licensed for 231 children ages 4 weeks-12 years old and provides a unique and state-of-the art curriculum built upon Jewish values and traditions and a Reggio Emilio/Montessori philosophy. Every learning experience is designed to meet one or more of the child’s areas of development: social and emotional, cognitive physical and cultural needs.

We are looking to expand our team with the following part-time positions for the new 2014/5 school year:

AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM TEACHERS

  • 3:00p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday to Friday, starting September 2, 2014
  • Follow public school calendar for open/close schedule
  • Caters to children from neighboring Nellie McClung Public School, Ventura Park Public School and Bialik Hebrew Day School, ages JK/SK-grade 6
  • Facilitate homework club in English, Hebrew, French; sports; recreational swim; arts, music, Shabbat club, snack, fun games and activities

The SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES will have PROVEN SUCCESS and aPOSITIVE TRACK RECORD in best practices relating to AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM TEACHING:

  • Ensure program and ratio compliance with the Ministry licensing
  • Develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum designed to meet the physical, social and emotional needs of the children in our care
  • Ensure the health and safety of all children at all times
  • Set up and clean up of classroom, equipment, supplies
  • Engage children and encourage, motivate them to participate
  • Maintain professional relationship and feedback to parents

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:

  • Enthusiasm, a love of working with children and a passion for teaching
  • At least 2 years experience working with elementary school age children in Ontario
  • Bachelor of Education Degree or enrolled – junior/primary
  • RECE an asset
  • Knowledge and experience with Reggio Emilio and Montessori teaching philosophy an asset
  • Knowledge of Jewish life, traditions, culture and Israel is a must; as well as an ability to integrate these concepts appropriately in the afterschool program content
  • Criminal record clearance, Child abuse registry clearance

Assistant Early Childhood Educators and Supply Assistant Early Childhood Educators | Submit before 2015-01-30

The Prosserman JCC Daycare and Preschool, housed in the David and Esther Freiman Childhood Education Centre, was created to allow children maximum self-expression in order to help them reach their full potential while connecting to Jewish traditions in meaningful ways.  Children from 12 months to 5 years can attend the state of the art facility We are looking to expand our Preschool and Daycare with Assistant Staff and Supply Staff positions.

 

 PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

As an Assistant Early Childhood Educator and Supply Assistant Early Childhood Educator, the Employee is required to perform the following duties and undertake the following responsibilities in a professional manner:

  • Create and actively promote a comfortable and welcoming environment;
  • Ensure the care and safety of the children;
  •  Organize and implement activities for the children as outlined in the weekly program plans; including components required by the curriculum;
  • Maintain a positive and professional relationship with all parents, children and colleagues;

  • Strong communication skills;
  • Knowledge of the Day Nurseries Act, City of Toronto Operating Criteria, and ELECT;
  • Knowledge of Jewish life, traditions, cultures as well as an ability to integrate these concepts appropriately into the daycare/preschool program content;
  • Knowledge of the Hebrew language is an asset;

J.ACADEMY ADMINISTRATOR

J.Projects and J.Academy is one of the many exciting initiatives that take place through the SRC. It draws in and brings together Russian-speaking Jewish people through innovative and engaging community events, celebrations, a summer camp, and various leadership and networking programs. Reporting to the Education Emissary to the Russian Speaking Jewish Community of Toronto, the J. Projects Coordinator will aid the J.Projects Department in achieving its three primary objectives on behalf of the Russian-speaking Jewish Canadian community of Toronto:

  1. Promote cohesion in the Russian-speaking Jewish Canadian community through programs and events.
  2. Engage in strengthening the Jewish community through integration of the Russian-speaking Jewish Canadian community in UJA Federation and Schwartz/Reisman Centre network of services and structure.
  3. Develop relationships and work with other institutions that meet the needs of the Russian-speaking Jewish Canadian community.

 

KEY FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

  • Provide administration support to our J.Academy camp department and its year round programming:
  • Assist with recruiting campers; liaise with parents by phone, email, in-person
  • Process camp enrollments
  • Coordinate logistics for year-round Shabbatons and J.Academy special programs and events
  • Provide administrative support on-site for the 2-week J.Academy camp held last two weeks of August on the Camp Northlands camp site
  • Assist with recruiting camp staff and C.I.T’s including processing employment contracts
  • Purchase office, camp and Shabbaton supplies
  • Maintain the J.Academy database and perform administrative duties related to the efficient running of the J.Academy office, including invoices, processing payments, answering telephone calls and emails.
  • Assist with preparing reports and grant applications as required
  • Build relationships; marketing, promotion and provide outstanding customer service
  • Liaise with J.Projects and J.Roots staff and Schwartz/Reisman Centre staff

  • Provide comprehensive reports according to J.Roots leveled success criteria twice a year.
  • Attend staff meetings and training as required.

Kachol Lavan is a unique supplemental Hebrew school program of the Schwartz/Reisman Centre (SRC), supported by UJA Federation of Greater Toronto. This supplemental school program runs every Sunday in 3 locations across the GTA augmented by additional cultural programs and special events. Kachol Lavan serves a diverse community from infants up.

Kachol Lavan brings the community excellence in Jewish education, focusing on imparting a love for the Hebrew language, proficiency in spoken Hebrew and a connection to Israel.  Hebrew classes run from SK to grade 8. Among our many additional popular programs: Musitaf, Chess, Choir, Theatre, Hebrew for adults, Unique Israeli studies, Leadership program and an exceptional Bar/Bat Mitzvah program.

We are looking to expand our Kachol Lavan Team for the 2014/5 year with qualified, engaging, committed and dynamic teachers:

PJ Plus Teachers - Sunday Mornings | Submit before 2015-01-30

PJ PLUS TEACHERS – SUNDAY MORNINGS

JCCS OF GREATER TORONTO

PJ Plus is an exciting NEW curriculum-based Jewish educational experiential initiative designed for parent and child. Building on the success of PJ library, PJ Plus is designed as a 1 hour and 15 minute program for children, ages 18 months - 3 years old WITH a parent, to engage in active Jewish learning together. Through a curriculum based on Jewish themes, children and parents will engage in hands on activities, including storytelling based on PJ Library books, arts and crafts, music, movement, puppets, and more. Take home activities will provide optional continued learning opportunities for the family.

The inaugural programs will run simultaneously at both the Schwartz/Reisman Centre and Prosserman JCC for 10 weeks every Sunday, beginning March 23rd-June 1st, 2014 excluding May 26th (Walk for Israel). Times: 9:30-10:45 for ages 18 months - 30 months and 11:00-12:15 for ages 2.5- 3.

We are looking to expand our PJ PLUS Team with two part-time Sunday morning positions:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the PJ Plus Coordinator, the PJ Plus teachers will be the front-line implementers of the carefully developed PJ Plus curriculum, providing exceptional educational experiences and outstanding customer service to parents and their children enrolled in the PJ Plus programs.

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Prepares PJ Plus lessons according to PJ Plus lesson plans and curriculum.
  • Delivers engaging, interactive lessons that stimulate the learning process for both parent and child.
  • Utilizes a variety of teaching methods and multi-media to create variety and interest.
  • Set up class-room and activity centers according to lesson plans ahead of start time; clean up afterwards.
  • Adapts lessons as required based on needs of the participants and flow of the day.
  • Assists the child in developing emotionally, socially, intellectually and physically.
  • Promotes a positive Jewish attitude, a love of Judaism and provides experiences of the lifecycle and holiday events shared by each family.
  • Interacts with parents providing a welcoming and nurturing environment.
  • Follows up on feedback from parents, listening to and understanding their learning and social needs.
  • Attends regular planning and evaluation meetings with PJ Plus Coordinator.
  • Advises the PJ Plus Coordinator if unable to conduct class in ample time to find a replacement.
  • Being an ambassador for the PJ Plus program and the JCCs of Greater Toronto; cross-promoting other programs/events as needed.

KEY REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

  • Registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Education or Certification as an Ontario accredited teacher, primary/junior division preferred.
  • Minimum of two-years of ECE classroom experience or equivalent, ages 18 months – 3 years.
  • Comfort and demonstrated experience running programs with parent presence and involvement.
  • Valid Ontario Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance.
  •  Excellent interpersonal skills: great attitude, warm, friendly, flexible and positive “can-do’ attitude.
  • Superior English language and presentation skills; strong ability to persuade and engage audience.
  • Ability to creatively problem-solve and pro-actively deliver excellent customer service and programming.
  • Detail oriented, ability to multi-task effectively; maintain a high level of participant engagement.
  • Knowledge of Jewish culture, traditions, Israel and community a must.
  • Ability to sing songs in English and Hebrew.
  • Ability to speak Russian, Hebrew, Spanish or other language not required but an asset.

 HOURS OF WORK:

  • Sundays 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. March 23- June 1, 2014.
  • This position will be paid hourly.
